Plant care : Plant description Ice cream bean trees grow best in full sun, from 8-10 hours per day. The ideal USDA growing zone is 9-11. Growing temperatures should range between 69-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Trees will be damaged if the temperatures drop below 30 degrees. Acclimation. : Slowly acclimate your new tree in an area that gets filtered light and has temperatures around 70 degrees . The plant should not be repotted until the proper location and weather is mild so that the transition will be easier for the plant . Repotting or placing in ground : Once location has been identified carefully remove the roots and place in desired location . Ensure it is well draining . Fertilize : not much fertilize is needed , it is a nitrogen fixer so avoid fertilizer with too much nitrogen . Recommend using You should not need to fertilize an ice cream bean tree very often organic potassium fertilizer like kelp meal. Occasional applications of compost around the base of the tree can also be beneficial. Watering : this tree once established can go for long periods without watering . Remove redundant and inner branches for a nice shape . Fruits grow on tips and old mature branches . Be cautious not to remove these .
